Scar Tissue…

Saturday I taught a class on How to Grow as a Writer.  One of the exercises we discussed was our scar tissue.  Every one I know has scar tissue that they carry around in their body.  Many of us are not even aware of our pain that we are carrying.  It is only through the writing that we can chisel away and remove those blocks.  Memories from past criticisms and hurts spring up sometimes when we least suspect it.  The story we write, the one we tell ourselves, the one we believe about ourselves is not always the truth.  Those who may have criticized us in the past leave a scar tissue in our remembrances.  Over time we build up more and more until we are walking around numb.  It is when we get in touch with our true self, the beautiful self that is you and me, that we can break free.

One of the beauties of writing is that we can write through our pain.  We can release those thoughts, people and images that no longer serve us.  Start by looking inward and seeing what causes you to feel sadness or pain.  Go deep to the heart of the issue, where and when did you first feel that feeling.  If you feel it now is it due to a person or a circumstance?  Release and cleanse and move forward in a new way.  photo (8)
