Guest Blog by Jo Anne Gill – September 7, 2013

Those of you who have been in Palm Springs this summer can verify exactly what it is Jo Anne is talking about!  This is a piece about our weather lately!  Enjoy!

As I open the door

Expecting Azure sky

Steamy heat explodes upon my face

The monsoon has returned

In the tick of a moment

Mother Nature has turned an eye

Sandstorm, sirocco, dust devil

It has many names

Defilers of clean air

Blockers of the sun and stars

Black hued thunderclouds

Darken the afternoon sky

The crashing sound of

Giants clapping

Reverberates from the mountains to

The desert floor

Ahh….fresh water drips as tears

Covering all in its path

Winds return

Dispelling the clouds

Cicadas begin their song

The incessant buzzing

Alerts my companions

They lick their lips

Mouths salivating

Cicadas, alive or dead,

Are a perfect dog snack.
