If you want to experience love, you have to start by loving yourself. First you have to love your body, then those who are related to your body, and then the master of the body, the inner Self…If the love you experience in your daily life-the little love you feel for your friends, your relatives, your pets, and even your possessions-could be turned toward the inner Self, that would be enough to bring you liberation-Swami Muktananda
On my own personal journey I have been discovering that we have to discover love within ourselves before we can extend it to the world. Self-love really is the key that unlocks the door to loving others and our world. As Swami Muktananda states above, an authentic experience of love has to start with fully loving ourselves and all that it encompasses.
What this essentially means is that any effort to love others without first having the ability to love ourselves will not be authentic. So the question to ask yourself today is, Are we able to love ourselves authentically today? Do we respect who we are and what we stand for as human beings as well as spiritual beings? If you are like me, there is room for improvement in this area and there is no time like the present to begin.
Join with me today as I journey within to learn to be real, genuine and authentic. Continue to peel away layers of self-criticism and judgement and look at all aspects of what makes you uniquely you. Prune away and discard that which no longer serves you. This inner work is essential to coming into your true essence.
