Henry David Thoreau wrote, “most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.”  The song of which Thoreau is speaking is the unexpressed self.  It requires courage to “sing” our song.  That courage will indeed take us to the very edge of our comfort zone, that dark place called fear: fear of rejection or perhaps fear of failure.  The inner critic inside each of us whispers in our ear, “what will I do if ‘they’ don’t like my song?”  What we  need to come back to and remember is that we are not singing our song for ‘them’ you are singing your song for you.  What is the song that you need to sing today?  Maybe it is to write that letter you have been avoiding, or make that phone call.  Do you need to tell someone dear to you that they have made a difference in your life?

Where in your life do you need to express yourself.  Spend some time thinking and writing about your unexpressed self and warm up those vocal cords and sing it loud and clear!
