Support your local library

Yesterday I spent part of the morning in a tiny little local library in a town called Los Osos.  The library was adorable.  The books were displayed neatly on the walls and on the shelves.  If I could buy library cologne, I think I would.  It is such a pleasant smell for me, it makes me feel safe and secure.  I spent many hours as a child in the library.  Some of my favorite memories revolve around the books and the shelves.  I remember my mom used to read to my brother, sister and me when I was too small to read to myself.  I can remember eating summer eating lunch on summer afternoons and listening to my mom read a great children’s story to us.  When I got older I would spend hours visiting the Seven Trees Branch Library and even became president of the Book Worm Club.  I remember checking out as many books as I could carry.  Each time when my mom would pick me up she would say the same thing…are you sure you can read all those books in one week?  Of course I always did.  Books were my friends and the librarian that started me on my journey was amazing.  She knew all of the books that I would love and encouraged me to write about each one I read.  She loved my input on each book I devoured.  (I would read so much that many times for punishment, the worst thing my mom could do to me was to take my books away).  When I read through the whole section of the children’s library, she began ordering more books for me from the main library in town.  So as you can see, sitting in that library many miles from San Jose can still transport me back to that 10 year old girl who loves words…
