When you know someone-really know and love him or her-it is a special gift to be on the viewing side of the camera. Photographs are special gifts that portray important times of change. Photographs contain the core of our relationships. If someone is looking at my camera, our relationship is held in that space between camera and eyes. There is an intimate moment that occurs when people let us view them puposefully, through a camera lens. Any authentic emotion that we can capture comes from their reaction to us.
I treasure close up photographs of the people I love. It is the beginning of satisfying my desire to know deeply. When we take a picture of someone, we are saying, “I see you. I behold you.” We are saying, “This moment matters. You, in the moment, matter. Can I preserve this?” Photographs make time stand still and heighten our awareness. They help us love the moment and each other.
Gather up those photos and write about some of the vacations you have taken or write about some of the important people in your life, you will be glad you did!
