So often I move quickly-taking care of details, making plans, accomplishing tasks-and don’t take time to appreciate the person who is right in front of me. Or maybe I am too shy to say to loved ones how I feel about the experience of just sitting with them, observing their beauty, and being grateful for their presence in my life. But once I have my photographs and am alone in my space, I can slow down and celebrate. I linger over the photographs and write.
If we let them, photographs can remind us of the essence of the people we love. A stranger might not see the beauty we see, but friendship gives up the gift of sight. Linger over your photographs. Let them guide you toward seeing the depth of compassion and gratitude and grace that resides within the people you love. As you collect these photographs onto your memoir pages, celebrate the important people in your life.
