The Craft of Writing

As a writer I will always work on my craft.  I will write and sometimes edit immediately.  Other times I will write and let it sit for awhile.  Sometimes what I write I want to just let it be…already feeling like I can’t add to it to make it better.  As with most things, you work on what you want to get better at.  About 3 years ago I had the idea of the Online Writing Club.  I took the idea and worked on it, presented it to my students and some signed up.  I learned a lot that first year and now 3 years later I am still molding this project and making it the best I can.  Each year I learn and grow, along with my students.  I am currently signing up a new group of students for the online club for 2018.  Are you wanting to be a part of a small group of writers wanting to grow in their craft?

If so, I hope you will read about the online writing club here on my website and consider joining us!

Located in downtown Palm Springs, this luxury 8 bedroom home is a 3 minute walk (3 blocks) to the heart of Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Spring’s famous main street featuring hundreds of shops, great restaurants, plus entertainment and attractions.

About The House

Newly and professionally designed and decorated in 2011, this historic home combines the comfortable Old Palm Springs Spanish style with a spacious all-new stainless and white kitchen and 6 beautiful new bathrooms. The natural wood floors in the main house offer a shiny, warm glow from the home’s original Early California construction, polished to perfection.

In addition to its amazing, close-up mountain views, you will love the sunny, feel-good vibe of this home dating back to the 1930s. The new furnishings, fixtures, bedding, pillow-top mattresses, new linens and furniture nod respectfully and tastefully to its past.

The spacious kitchen is equipped with everything you’ll need to prepare meals from simple to gourmet. New stainless steel appliances, 6 burner gas range, expansive counter / prep space, double refrigerator, and dual dishwashers.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Extremely comfortable new beds with plush linens and comforters. The bathrooms are bright and light to let the sunshine in with generous use of carrera marble; four of the bathrooms feature large tubs for soaking and relaxation. Each of the 6 bathrooms has their own luxurious showers and each bath features a window to experience the Palm Springs sunshine outdoors.

The centerpiece of the property is the beautiful new swimming pool and spa with deeper water at the other end, and a large whirlpool spa for up to 8 people. The adjoining backyard deck is cozy and allows conversation among guests while cooking and dining.

The home’s front courtyard is graced by an expansive porch that is shaded by terra cotta tiles and exposed wood beams. The home’s back courtyard is private and beautifully designed with a brand new pool and spa perfect for enjoying the peaceful pace of Palm Springs.

Enjoy the expansive shaded front porch of this Palm Springs vacation villa with the sounds birds singing and pleasant sights and sounds of people casually strolling to Downtown’s main strip, perhaps bringing to mind a quaint beach community or a small town of yesteryear.

Fear Factor…

Remember that show Fear Factor?  The premise, as I faintly recall, was that you were put in situations such as being with snakes, spiders or having to eat gross things.  If you could get past your fear you could win money.  Most of the stunts I would not have been able to handle.  But while I was on my run I started thinking about what were the things that I fear right now in my life.

Fear can hold us back from reaching our true potential.  I realized while I was running that for the most part I am pretty fearless, but what I wrote about yesterday in my blog regarding my dog Courtney is probably my biggest fear.  I do fear the day I have to tell her good-bye.  I have to be honest with you and say that I don’t know how I am going to manage without her.  Those of you who have special animals that you love may know what I am talking about.  Even now as I type this the tears are running down my cheeks because she is so much a part of my life.  I fear that without her I won’t be the same.  Does that sound crazy?

As I relate this topic to writing what fears are coming up in your life?  Do you fear you may run out of money before you run out of breath?  Do you fear the death of a spouse or the fear of alzheimer’s?  These are all very real fears that many of us face in our lives.

The truth of the matter is that some day we have to come face to face with our fears.  I guess when our fears become our reality that is when we see what we are really made of.  I hope and pray that I am strong enough when my fear becomes a reality.  But I also know that I don’t have to face my fear alone as I have a strong support system around me.

Today in your writing examine what fears you may have and what are they holding you back from.

Friendships and Memoirs…

This year I formed a book club specifically geared towards Memoir.  One of my friends, Ginni always reads the best memoirs, so I asked her if she would help lead this group.  The first book we read was on friendship called Let’s Take the Long Way Home by Gail Caldwell.

First of all the writing was beautiful and I really enjoyed reading this.  It brought to my mind the many friendships that I have experienced and enjoyed throughout my lifetime.  The friends that I have right now at this season in my life are very precious to me.

I could post hundreds of pictures of all my friends, but this one is a recent one of Wendy and I just before a morning hike.

Cherish your friends and enjoy the friendships you share.

Go for it!!

If you are like me, if you think about something too much you may talk yourself out of it…I try to live my life much like this little dog pictured.  Leap first and look later…

I think about some of the fun times I may have missed out on if I would have thought about the “consequences” before pressing forward!

Some of you when it comes to writing about your life are a little hesitant…leap!  don’t think!  Stop the chatter and start recording your life story.

What is holding you back?  Learning about yourself and recording your life story is one of the best things you could ever do in this world…I promise you will love it.

If you need help let me know and I will hold your hand every step of the way with you…
