Writing about Love…

The greatest vignettes that I love to write about are the times of love in my life.  Not only the people I love or have loved, but the things that I love.  One way to approach this topic in your writing life is to make a list of the different people you have loved in your lifetime.  This list could be divided into categories such as a romantic loves, friendships, family, etc.  Now you can also make a list of the things you love to do.  What are some things you love to do but are maybe now no longer physically able to do?  Who are the pets in your lifetime that you have loved?

Stretch yourself a bit further and focus down on the loves you have loved and now no longer have.  Tell about what you have learned about yourself in each of these relationships.  In these relationships, are there some that you wish you could just erase completely from your life or are you thankful for the lessons you learned through them?

Celebrate tool for your tool kit

This morning I woke up thinking of the tool “celebrate” for your tool kit.  I think it is important to remember to celebrate YOU!  As I write through my life and work through my memoir I realize that I have  a lot to celebrate.  Generally we think of celebrations around birthdays or holidays, but there is so much more to celebrate.  Consider the journey of your life and all those decisions you have had to make.  Why not celebrate that?  Look around at all the friends in your life, celebrate them!  Waking up each day is worth a celebration.  Why not choose a page in your journal and mark down all the gifts that you have that you need to celebrate.  Moving to the desert was one of the best things that I have ever done and I celebrate each morning as Courtney and I take our morning walk and enjoy the beautiful blue sky and the rugged mountains.  I celebrate that I have the students I have and that I am surrounded with so much love.  I celebrate even my hard times because I know that through each struggle I will grow and learn and become more of the essence of who I need to be.  So today, let me encourage and challenge you to celebrate all that you encounter today and in your life thus far.  Look for things to celebrate!
