If you are like me, if you think about something too much you may talk yourself out of it…I try to live my life much like this little dog pictured. Leap first and look later…
I think about some of the fun times I may have missed out on if I would have thought about the “consequences” before pressing forward!
Some of you when it comes to writing about your life are a little hesitant…leap! don’t think! Stop the chatter and start recording your life story.
What is holding you back? Learning about yourself and recording your life story is one of the best things you could ever do in this world…I promise you will love it.
If you need help let me know and I will hold your hand every step of the way with you…
I love this picture as it reminds me of the things that I love to do…I love the smell of the ocean air and the cool breezes that blow. The feel of the sand under your feet and between your toes. I love watching Courtney run on the beach, being ever so careful not to get her paws too wet! What are the joys that you love remembering and writing about? What are those sweet times in your life that you remember that strike you with their depth and beauty? Sometimes just taking out our journal and recording those sweet moments of our lives can be rewarding. Remember the feeling of your first kiss or when you first saw your newborn baby? Our lives are encompassed of sweet moments that if we let them can take our breath away. Start recording your joys of remembrances. Start by recording moments that make you smile…
This morning I woke up thinking of the tool “celebrate” for your tool kit. I think it is important to remember to celebrate YOU! As I write through my life and work through my memoir I realize that I have a lot to celebrate. Generally we think of celebrations around birthdays or holidays, but there is so much more to celebrate. Consider the journey of your life and all those decisions you have had to make. Why not celebrate that? Look around at all the friends in your life, celebrate them! Waking up each day is worth a celebration. Why not choose a page in your journal and mark down all the gifts that you have that you need to celebrate. Moving to the desert was one of the best things that I have ever done and I celebrate each morning as Courtney and I take our morning walk and enjoy the beautiful blue sky and the rugged mountains. I celebrate that I have the students I have and that I am surrounded with so much love. I celebrate even my hard times because I know that through each struggle I will grow and learn and become more of the essence of who I need to be. So today, let me encourage and challenge you to celebrate all that you encounter today and in your life thus far. Look for things to celebrate!
This morning I had the awesome privilege of attending a Bikram yoga class with my friend Melanie. It had been 4 years since I was in a Bikram yoga practice up in San Jose. Stepping back into the hot room was exhilerating. My first thoughts were one of wondering if I could do this again. So much has changed in my life since I first started doing Bikram. (For those of you who don’t know what Bikram Yoga is, it is hot yoga. The room is heated to 105 degrees and the 90 minute class does 26 postures). What did surprise me was how much I remembered and how good it felt to be back in a room with other like minded men and women.
I think Bikram Yoga reminded me of the tool of getting back to basics in your life. What are those things that you would like to get back and remember. Maybe it is getting back into a yoga or a stretching routine. Maybe it is spending some time in meditation or contemplation each day. The way to get back to the basics is to sit with yourself and really think about what are those things that make your soul sing. I would like to encourage you all today as you spend some time writing about your “back to basics” contemplate on the things that can bring you back to center, back to the place of pure joy. For me, happiness comes when I am snuggling my dog Courtney, or sitting at Melitas’ house listening to her tell me a story, or riding my bike or hiking. Maybe your back to basics may be to make that phone call you have been putting off or writing that letter to a loved one from far away.
I want to encourage you to find your center today. The best way is to get back to your basics and see what it is that can truly make you happy! As for me, it is all about finding the new in the old. Celebrate today!
