A few years ago I was teaching a group of students and we wrote about our recollections of the horrendous events that happened on September 11, 2001. We all shared our stories deeply because it was etched into our memory. Watching the towers collapse and knowing that at that very moments hundreds of lives were lost was very sobering. What struck me about this particular topic was that one of my students was actually on the east coast when all this happened.
Her recollection of the days events was very different from the west coast memories. We all were shocked and saddened by that day, but we weren’t there smelling the smoke or seeing the tears in person. There is something different about witnessing a horrific act via tv and internet and witnessing one in person.
We all can talk about days in our remembered history such as President Kennedy getting shot, Space Shuttle Challenger exploding, etc.
Today spend some time reflecting on the loss of that day. It is hard to believe that it has already been 11 years since that day.
