As a writer I will spend probably the rest of my life trying to be better at my craft. I want to learn how to tell a story in such a way that you (the reader) are right there with me each step of the way. Let’s face it, the more you do something the better you are at it. I remember when I was in the 4th grade and I got my first pogo stick. I watched my friend Kelly with hers bouncing all around the neighborhood, she made it look so easy. I can still remember jumping and falling, jumping and falling over and over and over again. But because I wanted it so badly, I didn’t give up. Each time I fell I got right back up and guess what? Each week I got a little better and better. Looking back I don’t know how long it took but eventually I could bounce all over that neighborhood and then…one day I was better than Kelly! I became the neighborhood champ! When I write and I struggle to show on paper what it is I have in my head I remember my pogo stick. I challenge all my students to remember that we all need to take our writings and mold it and work with it until we have something that is beautiful. The trick is not giving up! Are you ready to learn how to craft your story? I will be coming to Heritage Palms Country Club on November 12th for a one day writers workshop. I will spend the morning first talking memoir as it relates to writing about our mother’s legacy that has been handed down to us. We will discover the personal truths that are often buried deep but we will uncover how we can take just a flash of memory and turn it into an unforgettable tale. Later on I want to discuss how to create a scene. Now I don’t mean raising a ruckus and creating a scene but I am going to give you 9 strategies on how to write a compelling scene. And if that isn’t enough I want to really get you clear on conflict in story and the importance of both the internal and external conflicts that move your story to a higher level.
I hope you will join me on this day! Here is the info you need:
