Hats off to the Desert Sun!

Probably one of the most expensive parts of running and operating your own business is the almighty advertising dollar.  As I look over my budget I have spent thousands of dollars mainly to the beloved Desert Sun paper.  I am so happy to report that I just received an email from one of their writers that she would love to profile my women’s writing workshop group!  So ladies make sure you have your teeth brushed and your hair combed because hopefully we can even get a picture in the paper!  This is great news for our workshops.  I have always felt as though I have been on the verge of something “huge”, yes … “huge!”  What happens in our workshops is amazing…if I am dreaming please don’t wake me!

Just finished another of my four week sessions!  My November classes are now a memory and I am excited to begin my mini-workshops beginning November 30 and running through December 16.  I am really looking forward to these workshops.  I will begin the new series of the regular sessions starting in January.  Now, I can concentrate on getting ready for the holiday luncheon coming to the Indian Wells Country Club on Thursday, December 3rd.  I look forward to getting together with my current students as well as those who have already graduated!  I will be honoring 6 women who have graduated during the fall sessions.  If you have not made plans to attend, please email me or call me.  This is a luncheon that you won’t want to miss!

Find your passion…

I recently attended the November luncheon for the Pen Women organization here in Palm Desert.  I am very proud to be on the board of this great organization.  The speaker this week spoke about Dr. Seuss.  She was amazing as she had two of his stories memorized by heart and recited them.  It was beautiful and it reminded me of how much I used to love to read Dr. Seuss.  I love children’s stories that have that sing-song rhyme to them.  My all time favorite children’s book is called Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree.  This was a book I received when I was a member of a book order club and they would send me a book or two every month.  The story is also in rhyme and it is adorable, if I ever see it again I am going to snatch it right up!  Whenever I attend any of the Pen Women luncheon’s I am always amazed and inspired to be around such a great group of talented women.  It reminded me to love my passion and that is of writing.  I love to think of a brilliant idea and began to plan out a lesson or a book.  I am one of the fortunate women who has found her passion early.  Each day I wake up so happy that I do what I do!  Have you found your passion yet?

Junior Writers Guild

I am honored to be on the board of the Palm Springs Writers Guild and my position is that I am in charge of the Junior Writers Guild.  My job is one that I am in charge of 3 mentors for 3 of the local middle schools here in the Desert Sands Unified School District.  I was excited to attend my first meeting with my mentor, Patricia yesterday.  It is really fun to be around 6th-8th graders who are excited about writing.  I got really hooked into writing with my 4th grade teacher and I always felt that if we can pass along that love of writing to students it would be a great accomplishment.  I am excited to see all the great things we can do together!

Friendships of women…

I was thinking today while riding my bike how very lucky I am.  Not only have I been blessed with living here in the desert, but I have had the joy of making wonderful friends.  When I left San Jose, I left behind two very close friends, that I still miss to this day.  Friendships take time to build, it is a give and take.  I have heard it said that if you have a handful of really good friends consider your life blessed.  As I rode through Indian Wells today, I thought of all of my friends that I have made here in the desert.  I know that I have at least 20 that I could call in a moment and they would be here for me.  Wow, I am so thankful for each of my friends.  I know that I gain my strength from my girlfriends.

Last night on Facebook I got one of my college roomates found me and we had such a nice talk.  I met Fran when I was only 17 and my sophomore year of college we were roommates.  It was great reconnecting with someone from your past.

So…to all my friends (from years gone by and to my new friends) thank you for adding depth to my life.  I love each and every one of you!
